One of the biggest events of the College Year that students plan for over many months is the Formal. This is an opportunity for all students to "strut their stuff"!
It all starts with the formation of the Year 12 Formal Committee where students decide on the venue as well as determining the cost, menu and general run of the event. A competition is held to determine the design of the tickets and the pressure is on to raise funds through chocolate sales. The ticket prices are set to be as reasonable as possible and include a photo of the event.
The hard work of the committee culminates in a night in early December that is sure to be remembered. One of the most outstanding aspects of the night has really nothing to do with the actual dinner. This is the arrival of the soon to graduate year 12s. Over the years, we have seen students arrive by horse and cart, tricycle, and of course by the more conventional means such as a limo, car or taxi.
Students and teachers attend the dinner, but the night belongs to the students, many of who go on to party from midnight to dawn at a city disco. Of course, a responsible attitude to the event is encouraged with many students arranging independent transport or designated drivers.
The night is one of good food, lots of dancing and many fond memories in the making.
